This high-accuracy, fast-response temperature sensor comes sealed and ready to use for temperature profiling, lab measurements, and more!

This new version of the Celsius replaces the TSYS01 sensor with the TMP119, which improves both response time and accuracy. Its new potting-free design also increases the depth rating and overall reliability.

Product Description

The Celsius temperature sensor is a fast-response, high-accuracy temperature sensor that is protected by an aluminum cage, and sealed from the water when installed on a watertight enclosure. Use it to make depth/temperature profiles, surface temperature profiles, and take accurate measurements in any fluid.

The sensor uses the TMP119, which is typically accurate to ±0.03°C and communicates over I2C. It comes standard with a JST GH connector.

The TMP119 sensor itself has a fast time response and we designed the whole package to maintain that speed to allow accurate temperature profile measurements even while descending/ascending quickly. The Celsius sensor has a response time constant of < 0.8 seconds (0.5 seconds typical). An anodized aluminum cage around the sensor protects it from damage. Based around our M10 WetLink Penetrator, it is compatible with all of our watertight enclosures and is rated to 6000 meters(!).

The electrical schematic is open-source and available in the Technical Details tab. Feel free to adapt for your own needs.

¹ The sensor temperature is limited by the maximum O-ring temperature. Wire insulation may degrade over time if kept above 80°C for extended periods.
² The sensor is primarily designed for in-water use. Response time will be slower in air and accuracy may be degraded depending on how the sensor is integrated.
³ Additional accuracy ranges are available in the official datasheet.

Quick Start

⚠️ Note: The Celsius is not fully waterproof. The front side is sealed and can be exposed to water, but the back side (where the wires exit) is not sealed—water will enter if submerged. A proper seal is only created when the Celsius bulkhead is installed through an enclosure or other device.

1. Download TMP119 Arduino Library. (For older Celsius units use the TSYS01 Arduino Library).

2. Install software such as the Example Code to your microcontroller.

3. Connect the JST GH connector or bare wires to the appropriate microcontroller pins, using a logic level converter if your board has 5V logic:

  • Green: SCL (3.3V logic)
  • White: SDA (3.3V logic)
  • Red: 3.3–5.5V
  • Black: Ground
