At first we were going to call this the BlueROV2 Accessory Bar, which is a perfectly fine name, but honestly not that exciting and not that clear. Then, lightbulb moment: BlueROV2 Roof Rack. Yes. That’s what it’s called.
The roof rack is a bent aluminum mounting bracket that spans between the BlueROV2’s side panels and provides space on top to mount just about anything. It uses existing holes on the BlueROV2’s frame to mount in front or rear position, depending on your application. It has pre-drilled holes for the following accessories (not necessarily all at the same time):
- 4 x Lumen Lights
- 3 x Watertight Enclosure Clamps
- Newton Gripper
- Ping360 Scanning Imaging Sonar
- Sonoptix ECHO Multibeam Imaging Sonar
- Standard 1/4-20 UNC Tripod Mounts
The top of the ROV is often the best spot for devices like sonars. We’ve also used this bracket to mount a GPS unit in a 2″ enclosure, as a tether attachment point, and for an ultrasonic thickness gauge.
Last, the bracket has one more cool feature! It can mount to the Lumen light mounting holes at the front of the BlueROV2 frame so that you can mount accessories right in front of the camera. We’re not sure what you’d do with that yet, but it’s an option!
Check out the guide for more details on how to use it.
