Underwater devices like our thrusters, lights, and sonars typically have tough polyurethane cable jackets that protect them from leaking. Polyurethane is abrasion resistant, doesn’t degrade in sunlight, and reliably waterproof, but it can also be difficult to work with! If you’ve had to strip a polyurethane cable jacket, you probably know what we mean!
This specialized cable jacket stripper is designed for fast and easy removal of cable jackets, and works well with the polyurethane jackets on subsea products! It has an adjustable blade for making cuts of different depths. It can make a standard circular cut as well as spiral and longitudinal cuts, which can help with particularly tough-to-strip cables. It works on cables ranging from 4.5 mm to 29 mm in diameter!
This tool isn’t essential for stripping a cable jacket – you can also do it with a sharp razor blade – but it does make it a lot easier. Check out the guide video here to see a demo of how it’s used!
