Working at Blue Robotics
Looking to dive into the world of marine technology? At Blue Robotics, we’re building the tools that power ocean exploration, research, and innovation around the globe. From engineering and software development to manufacturing, operations, and customer support and success roles, there are plenty of ways to make an impact.
Together, we’re enabling the future of marine robotics by making underwater technology more open and accessible. Explore our career opportunities below and join our crew!
We are an equal opportunity employer offering competitive pay, benefits, and perks.
Blue Robotics is looking for a Quality Inspector to join our production team building underwater vehicles, thrusters, lights, sensors, and other robotic components. As the Quality Inspector, each component that you examine will go out into the world to explore shipwrecks, study endangered species, map the ocean floor, and generally advance human understanding of the oceans. Pretty cool!
On the flip side, even a small product failure can lead to a failed mission for our customer. Because of that, our in-house quality team is driven to deliver excellence in every product. Our Quality Inspectors are the type of people who notice the tiny details that others might miss and speak up about potential issues or inconsistencies. Our Quality Inspectors work efficiently and independently for the majority of the day, and collaborate with the rest of the team to share their findings after inspections or investigations. We are pursuing the highest standards of reliability and excellence, and collecting all the data while we do it.
Having manufacturing experience is a huge plus for this role, but don’t worry, most of our wonderful team have never built robots or robotic components before. Without a background in manufacturing, you still may be a great fit if you have worked in a machine shop, a healthcare setting, or worked as a field technician installing equipment for clients. Our ideal candidate has a sense of urgency, is very detail-oriented, accustomed to updating notes or entering notes in a computer program, and is very independent.
Our design team in Victoria, BC has a growing list of embedded devices and components either in development now or on our immediate roadmap. Some of these devices include: motor controllers, battery management systems, manipulators, cameras, acoustics, and high-bandwidth communications products.
We are looking for an Embedded Development Engineer to join the team – a senior designer with a bunch of advanced electronics and firmware experience along with a broad knowledge of adjacent fields.
We’re looking for a Technical Writer to join our product experience team and contribute to the documentation experience across our products. You’ll work closely with subject matter experts, translating complex technical content into clear, accurate, and useful guides that help our customers build, operate, and get the most out of Blue Robotics products.
Great guides are a core part of the Blue Robotics product experience. As a technical writer, you’ll be directly shaping how our customers understand and use our products. This role isn’t for someone who will just follow a product spec and write steps – the right person will think deeply about how people learn, how to sequence information, and how to make complex things feel approachable and even enjoyable. You’ll bring creative ideas to raise the bar on what a product guide can be.
As a Software Developer at Blue Robotics you will be able to clearly see the value that your work adds to our company and maritime community. You will join a small eclectic software development team that works with a range of different technologies, bleeding edge development practices, and an open-source culture of marine robotics enthusiasts, scientists, and professionals.
You will have an opportunity to fit into a contributing role on a number of projects spanning many technologies. Responsibilities will include developing software in new and existing projects, debugging, testing, and occasionally getting wet. We require a fast learner who is independent, resourceful, and able to communicate effectively.
Your main role will be as a developer and maintainer for BlueOS, our open source software that runs on a Linux based computer. BlueOS is responsible for managing communications with the pilot computer from the surface, integrating sonars, positioning systems, cameras, streaming video, and running the autopilot software that controls the ROV. BlueOS implements a web interface to allow the user to configure and manage the system, update the software, collect diagnostic and log information.
Blue Robotics is looking for a Packer to join our production team to package parts for underwater vehicles, thrusters, sensors, enclosures, and other products. As the Packer, each component that you package will go out into the world to help explore shipwrecks, study endangered species, map the ocean floor, and generally advance human understanding of the oceans.
Because our customers depend on our products performing consistently when they are out in the field, our manufacturing team is focused on continuous process improvement. For us that means you must be someone who is willing to learn and ask questions, comfortable receiving feedback, and can be trusted to work consistently with minimal supervision. Our products are being changed and updated frequently, so someone who is flexible and able to learn quickly is an ideal fit for this position.
We provide hands-on training and frequent check-ins to ensure you are comfortable and confident following packaging procedures. Within 30 days you will be comfortable with many of our products and by three months, we expect you to be able to fly solo; packaging products consistently and efficiently.
